About Staff & Founders Locations President’s Corner Affiliates and Network Partners Evidence Foster Parents Resources Resources Events Publications Implementation Press Contact Us Kids should live in homes, not institutions. Learn More we are strong together Our Services (TFCO) was developed as an alternative to institutional, residential, and group care placements for children and youth with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Multiple randomized trials confirm a number of positive results. The model is tailored to the unique developmental needs of children from ages 7 to 17 years. TFCO was formerly known as Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC). Childhood Referrals are typically received from child welfare and mental health case workers. Children referred to TFCO-C are between the ages of 7 and 11 and in need of an out-of-home placement due to serious emotional, behavioral or mental health problems. Adolescents Placements in TFCO for adolescents are typically 9 months in length and rely on intensive, well-coordinated, multi-method interventions conducted in the TFCO home, with the youth’s discharge home, and with the youth in the community including academic support. Why TFCO? The two main goals of TFCO are to create opportunities for youth to successfully live in a family setting and to simultaneously help parents (or other long-term family resource) provide effective parenting. TFCO focuses on five key areas: (1) a consistent, reinforcing environment with mentoring and encouragement; (2) daily structure with clear expectations and specific consequences; (3) a high level of youth supervision; (4) limited access to problem peers along with access to prosocial peers; and (5) an environment that supports daily school attendance and homework completion. Considering the longterm effects, TFCO is more cost-effective than both types of residential care mentioned above.” — SBU • Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services – www.SBU.se Media Coverage EVIDENCE BASED Science Matters With a strong focus on evidence-based interventions, government and philanthropic spending can successfully address poverty, educational failure, violence, drug abuse, and other critical problems. — Washington State Institute for Public Policy http://www.wsipp.wa.gov/BenefitCost/Program/20 +4.29 BENEFIT/COST RATIO 90% CHANCE PROGRAM WILL PRODUCE BENEFITS GREATER THAN COST RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS TFCO Has Proven To: Prevent or reduce the number of days in institutional or residential settings Prevent the escalation of delinquency, youth violence and pregnancy Increase positive academic engagement Reduce placement disruptions Increase attachment Improve brain stress regulatory systems See Results of Trials Locations Global Reach Go to Live Map See a list of our current site locations We can do it Get In Touch Contact John or Trina to see how TFCO can help you.
